Escalante
60th Anniversary
Mary and Trinidad Escalante Sr. will celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows. A reception will be held at Embassy Suites.
The native Arizonans were married Jan. 12, 1935 in Tucson. Their children are Socorro Escalante of Banning,Calif; Richard Escalante of Albuquerque, N.M.; Ray Escalante of Kent, Wash.; and Carmen Escalante, Lily Martinez, Walter Escalante and Trinidad, Jr. of Tucson. They have 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Escalante retired from Tucson Unified School District.
Eshelman
50th Anniversary
Lolita and Francis Eshelman celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary during an intimate reception with family. They were married in January, 1945 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Their children are James (Pamela) Eshelman and Susie Ensle. They have one grandson, Scott Ensle. Mr. Eshelman retired from Southern Pacific Railroad.
Haas
50th Anniversary
Florence and Ralph Haas celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at a dinner at the home of Margaret and Ralph Bravetti, their daughter and son-in-law. Their children gave them an Alaskan cruise that they will take this summer.
They were married Dec. 23, 1944 in Virginia Beach, Va. There other children are Sharon McCaffery of Atlanta, Ga. and John Haas of Tucson. Mr. Haas is a retired aerospace engineer.
Codd
55th Anniversary
Ruth and George Codd celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary with a celebration at the Arizona Inn. The Tucson natives were married Oct. 12, 1939.
The couple’s children are Mike (Barb) Codd, Patti (Russell) Krumwiede, and Kathie (Bob) Buehrer all of Tucson. They have five grandchildren. Mr. Codd is retired from George G.Codd Construction Co., Inc., which he founded over 40 years ago.
Echerivel
50th Anniversary
Petra and Augusto P. Echerivel celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a dinner reception at Anthony’s in the Catalinas. Their seven children and their families attended.
They were married Dec. 19, 1944 in Janos, Chihuiahua, Mexico and have lived in Tucson for the past 40 years. Their children are Irene Burgess of Chandler, Rosa Rule of Glendale, and Santiago Echerivel, Luis Echerivel, Zulema Felix, Teresa Prieto and Petra Echerivel all of Tucson. They have 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Echerivel is retired from Anamex Mining Corp. and Mrs. Echerivel is a homemaker.
Cardon
55th Anniversary
Charlotte and Bartley Cardon celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary. The couple, who has lived in Tucson most of their married life, were married Dec. 17, 1939.
Their children are Bartley of Belmont, Md.; Joanne Downey of Tucson; Christine Kronick of London, Ontario, Canada; and Mary Elizabeth De La Houssaye of N. Attleboro, Mass. They have nine grandchildren.
Castillo
50th Anniversary
Maria Louisa and Eduardo Castillo celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a Mass at St. John’s Catholic Church and a a reception at the Inn at the Airport. They renewed their wedding vows. Marta and Manuel Noriega were their new witnesses.
They were married Dec. 27, 1944 in Nogales, Sonora, Mex. and have lived in Arizona 50 years.
Their five children are Edward (Dana) Castillo, Robert (Cecilia) Castillo, Daniel (Mary Lou) Castillo, Cecilia (Manuel) Bermudez of Tucson, and Norma (Agustin) Ochoa of Vista, California. They have 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Castillo is retired from Tucson Unified School District.
Hennessy
50th Anniversary
Lois S. and James M. Hennessy were honored with a reception at the Arizona Inn in celebration of their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 26.
The reception was given by their children Allen and Pamela Hennessy of Toronto, Canada, Stephen and Ina Hennessy of Wasilla, Ala., and Eileen and Greg Bender of Tucson. They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Jim and Lois formerly lived in Tucson and now reside in Conroe, Tex.
Melton
55th Anniversary
C. Thelma and George W. Melton celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary with a renewal of their wedding vows at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Robert Tominga. A reception at Discovery Inn for the immediate family followed the ceremony.
They were married Dec. 27, 1939 in Springfield, Ill. and have lived in Arizona since October 1951.
Their children are Curt (Dolores) Melton of Willcox, Ariz., Philip D. (Diane) Melton of Tucson, and Mary Frances (Jerry) Zigan of San Bernardino, Calif. They have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Melton retired from the Prudential Insurance Co.
Hunt
65th Anniversary
Beatrice and Charles Hunt celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary.
They were married Dec. 7, 1929 in Lackawanna, N.Y. They have lived in Arizona for 15 years.
Their five children are Charles Hunt, Jr. of Elma, N.Y.; Percy Hunt of Salamanca, N.Y.; Jack Hunt of Hamburg, N.Y.; Robert Hunt of Castile, N.Y.; and Betty Willis of Hamburg N.Y. They have 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hunt is retired from Scouts and Mr. Hunt is retired from Bethel Steel
Mandel
50th Anniversary
Helen and Louis Mandel celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with relatives and friends during a party at the Stockade Restaurant.
They were married Jan. 15, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. Their two children are Lisa Mandel and James Marvin Mandel, both of Tucson.
They have lived in Tucson for 30 years. Both are retired.
Bernal
50th Anniversary
Margaret and Augustine R. Bernal, Jr. celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by renewing their marriage vows. Msgr. Carrillo officiated. A reception at the Sabbar Shrine Temple given by their children followed.
They were married Dec. 2, 1944. Their children are Augustine N. Bernal of La Mesa, Calif., and Ramona Espino, Josie Borboa, Carrie Bernal and Irene Sanchez all of Tucson. They have seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Bernal is retired from Tucson Unified School District. Mr. Bernal is retired from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
