LADD - WHITAKER

Miss Molly Ellen Ladd
Weds
Mr. Joseph Mathew Whitaker

Miss Molly Ellen Ladd and Mr. Joseph Mathew Whitaker were united in marriage on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at four o'clock at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. The Reverend Dr. Peter Thomas and The Reverend Pete Whitaker, brother of the groom, officiated the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by Organist George Mims, and Joe Ellis, friend of the bride and groom, played the trumpet. A string quintet and a brass trio completed the music for the wedding. Scripture readings were given by Allen Ladd, brother of the bride, and Polly Perry, sister of the groom. Following the ceremony, a dinner was held at the Texas Corinthian Yacht Club in Kemah, Texas with music provided by ELS of New Orleans, Louisiana. On the eve of the wedding, the groom hosted the rehearsal dinner at Tony's Restaurant.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Carl Michael Ladd of Pittsford, New York and the late Mr. Carl Michael Ladd. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Grover Thomsen of Waco, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. F. Robert Ladd of Rochester, New York. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Whitaker of Kemah, Texas. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Wallace of Houston and the late Mr. and Mrs. Grant Whitaker of Houston.

Given in marriage and escorted by her brother, Robert Ladd, the bride chose an elegant gown of ivory silk organza detailed in ivory silk satin designed by Vera Wang of New York. The strapless bodice featured appliques of re-embroidered alencon lace detailed under the bust with silk faced ribbon culminating in double tuxedo bows at the back bodice. The voluminous skirt carried a deep border of matching alencon lace and swept into a long chapel-length train. The bride's ensemble was complete with the addition of cathedral and shoulder length veils of soft illusion. Molly wore a magnificent tiara of seed pearls in a floral design by Paris. She carried a bouquet of stephanotis and bridal white, cream and pink roses.

Dr. Amy Ladd of Stanford, California served her sister as Matron of Honor. The Flower Girl was Emily Rose Fitzgerald, niece of the bride. The Best Man was James Hughes of Houston. The Ring Bearers were Jackson Whitaker, son of the groom, and Ian Fitzgerald, nephew of the bride. Ushers included Brian Whitaker of San Antonio and Justin Whitaker of Montgomery, Texas, both nephews of the groom.

The bride is a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland High School. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University and her Master of Business Administration degree from Rice University. She was recently the director of Corporate and Foundation Giving for El Paso Corporation. The bride serves on the Board of Trustees for the Heritage Society and the Board of Directors of D.A.R.E Corporation of Houston.

The groom is a graduate of Clear Creek High School. He attended the University of Houston and is president of the independent power generation company, Electrical Technologies Inc.

Following a honeymoon to Acapulco and the Leeward Islands, Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Whitaker now reside in Houston.
