MULLIS - FOWLER

Buffalo United Methodist is wedding scene Miss Alyssa Laurin Mullis became the bride of First Lieutenant Darren B. Fowler during a double-ring ceremony on December 14, 2002, at Buffalo United Methodist Church. Reverend Philip Chandler officiated the six o'clock candlelight service.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mullis, Jr. of Union. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold B. Fowler of Jonesville. Presenting the musical program were harpist, Miss Emily Waggoner of Greenville; organist, Mrs. Zora O'Dell of Buffalo; vocalist/pianist, Dale Morgan of Jonesville; and vocalists, Mrs. Mia Silvers of Roebuck and Mr. Kenny Harris of Spartanburg. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Mori Lee gown, designed by Madeline Garner.

The gown included a scoop neckline and a bodice covered with Austrian crystals and bugle beads in an icy branched design. This same pattern was carried throughout the gown and cathedral length train. The bride wore her maternal grandmother's opal, emerald and diamond ring. She also wore her paternal grandmother's pearls as a bracelet. Her mother gave her a sixpence for her shoe. She wore a fingertip, ribbon-edged veil with a silver and Austrian crystal snowflake tiara. Her formal, cascading bouquet consisted of lilies, dendrobium orchids, white roses, white teki roses, irridescent silver berries, dark blue delphinium and silver graveila foliage.

Miss Jane Anne Deaton of Charleston served as maid of honor. Mrs. Kathy Neal of Simpsonville served as matron of honor. They wore a royal blue Mori Lee designer gown with sequined-covered spaghetti straps. The bodice was edged with the sequins and crystals similar to the straps. They carried a wrap of the same color. Both carried a sheath of white carnations, white snaps, silver graveila foliage and blue delphinium hand-tied with a silver mesh bow.

Bridesmaids included Miss Lauren Mullis, cousin of the bride of Easley, Miss Lori Wilbanks, cousin of the bride of Whitmire, Miss Kyle Smith and Miss Brittany Smith, both cousins of the bride of Rock Hill, Mrs. Kristin McDowell, sister of the groom of Spartanburg, and Mrs. Angela Barnes of Roebuck. They wore gowns identical to that of the honor attendants. Each carried a sheath of a mixture of white flowers tied with a silver bow.

Serving as junior bridesmaids were Miss Rebecca Drum, Miss Kirsten Sanders, Miss Kelley Strong, Miss Gabrielle Cromer, and Miss Rochelle Garcia all of Union. They wore royal blue dresses with a silver lam sash that tied in a bow in the back. The neckline was accented with a silver embroidery. They wore princess tiaras and carried a blue candle with silver ribbon. Junior bride was Lauren Marie Mullis, niece of the bride of Spartanburg.

She wore a gown designed by The Sweetie Collection. Her gown and bouquet was similar to the bride. Junior groom was Trent Ivey, cousin of the bride of Union. Miss Porter Sistar, cousin of the bride of Lancaster, served as flower girl. Master Tyler McDowell, nephew of the groom of Spartanburg, served as ring bearer.

The groom chose his father to serve as best man. Groomsmen included David Fowler, brother of the groom of Germany, John C. Mullis, III, brother of the bride of Union, Ulysses Hayes of Georgetown, Kentucky; Robert Stoss of Lexington, Kentucky; Edward McDowell, brother-in-law of the groom of Spartanburg, Brad Morris, cousin of the groom of Union, and Robert Greer, cousin of the bride of Spartanburg. Miss Dona Nena Wright of Buffalo served as acolyte. Ceremony greeters were Chief Master Sergeant Virgil Childers and Mrs. Chera Stapleton.

Mrs. Ann Wilbanks of Whitmire attended the bridal register. Program attendants were Mrs. Jerri Ivey and Miss Sally Prince. Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held at the Union National Guard Armory. Traditional Military Arch of Sabers was performed by The Citadel Cadets of Charleston during the wedding ceremony and at the reception. The groom gave a remembrance toast to the military, past, present and future using the bride's maternal grandfather's World War I canteen. The bride and groom cut the first slice of cake using the bride's paternal grandfather's Citadel sword.

Reception greeters were Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Mullis. Wedding coordinator was Mrs. Angela Childers. After a honeymoon trip to Saint Lucia, West Indies, the couple will reside in Union and Baumholder, Germany.

The bride received a bachelor of science in biochemistry from Converse College. Currently, she is a Chemist at Haemonetics. She is a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Alverson and Reverend and Mrs. John C. Mullis, Sr. of Lancaster.

The groom received a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Kentucky and is currently First Lieutenant with the United States Army 1-35 Armor Division. He is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Dupre Bogan of Jonesville, Mrs. Willa Mae Fowler of Union and the late James B. Fowler.

Parties and showers:

On September 15, a miscellaneous shower was given by Ms. Alice Alverson, aunt of the bride and Mrs. Susan Mullinnix at The Inn of Merridun.

On October 22, a miscellaneous shower was given by the women of Bogansville United Methodist Church at the church.

On October 26, a cooking and dining bridal tea was given by Mrs. Mia Silvers, Mrs. Alyson Varner and Mrs. Elaine Lawson at Bogansville United Methodist Church.

On November 10, a miscellaneous shower was given by Mrs. Avonelle Zimmerman, Mrs. Priscilla Lancaster, Mrs. Paula Wright, Mrs. Kathy Robertson, Mrs. Betty Kirby, Mrs. Carol Elliot, Mrs. Dolly Pittman, Mrs. Sandra Black, Mrs. Frances Mitchell, Mrs. Mable Tucker, Mrs. Sara Settle, Mrs. Zora O'Dell, Mrs. Joyce Plemmons, Mrs. Deanna Heatherly, Mrs. Waunet Petty, and Mrs. Virginia Harmon at Buffalo United Methodist Church.

On November 17, a Christmas shower was given by Mrs. Hope Wilbanks, Mrs. Ann Wilbanks and Miss Lori Wilbanks at the home of Mrs. Hope Wilbanks.

On November 28, a Thanksgiving shower was given by Mrs. Macy Mullis and Mrs. Barbara Gardner at the home of Mrs. Mullis.

On December 7, a bridal luncheon was given by Mrs. Kristin McDowell at her home.

On December 12, a miscellaneous shower was given by co-workers at Haemonetics.

On December 12, a honeymoon shower was given by Mrs. Agnes Bogan and Mrs. Amelia Hart at the home of Mrs. Bogan.

On December 13, a rehearsal dinner was given by the groom's parents at the social hall of Buffalo United Methodist Church catered by Midway. Mrs. Darren B. Fowler
