Alley - Purrington
Elizabeth Grimes Purrington and John Granville Alley, Jr. were married November 10, 2007 at five-thirty in the afternoon at Christ Episcopal Church in Raleigh. The Reverend Barbara Boersma Chaffee and the Reverend Tambria Elizabeth Lee officiated the ceremony. A reception followed at the Carolina Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Luther Purrington III of Raleigh, and granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Luther Purrington, Jr. of Raleigh, and of the late Mrs. Eleanore Vietor Rutherfurd, and of the late Mr. Edward Nicoll Townsend, Jr. The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Granville Alley of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Rapha Smith and of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Granville Alley. The matrons of honor were the bride's sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Anderson Purrington of Raleigh and Jacinda Isley Purrington of Julian. The best man was Grimsley Taylor Hobbs III of Pittsboro, cousin of the groom. Ushers were Alfred Nicholas Purrington of Julian and John Vietor Purrington of Raleigh, brothers of the bride; Ralph William Carter III of Atlanta, Georgia; William Fairfax Cooper of Charlotte; Harris Norman Gilbert of Nashville, Tennessee; Andrew Michael Hunter of Darien, Connecticut; Joseph Michael Loughran III of Atlanta, Georgia; Scott Evans Miller of Scottsdale, Arizona; John Christian Norwood of New York, New York; and Samuel Faucette Stephenson of Pittsboro. The readers were Elizabeth Fulton Saye of Pinehurst, cousin of the bride, and Jane McGrigor Forde of Raleigh. The program attendants were the bride's cousins, Virginia Camp Purrington of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Sara Lindsay Purrington of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Assisting as acolytes were Mark Fulton Timmons and Paul Jefferson Timmons of Richmond, Virginia, cousins of the bride, and Charlotte Thompson Mabe of Raleigh. The bride graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Kenan Flagler Business School. She is currently an independent marketing and leadership consultant. The groom graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and is a radiologist with Raleigh Radiology Associates, Inc. After a honeymoon trip to Costa Rica, the couple will reside in Raleigh.
