Appleby - Pyrtle
Karla Jo Pyrtle and James Mark Appleby were married at half past five in the evening on November 3, 2007 in a traditional ceremony at Davis Street United Methodist Church in Burlington by Pastor Doctor Alan Sasser. A tented reception featuring The Tams, hosted by the bride's parents, followed at Alamance Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wayne Pyrtle and the granddaughter of Mrs. Anne Willis Swicegood, the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Malone Pyrtle, both of Burlington, and the late Mr. Walter James Swicegood of Yanceyville. Karla earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile and Apparel Management from North Carolina State University. She is a Senior Sales Representative for Metro Magazine in Raleigh. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Appleby, Jr. of Charlotte. He is the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. James Mourning Appleby of Richmond, Virginia, Mr. Charles Everett Smith of Shelby, and the late Mrs. Grace Vickers Smith of Forest City. Mark graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication. He is a Licensed Investment Representative and Retail Banking Associate with First Citizens Bank in Raleigh. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Serving as matron of honor was sister-in-law, Julie Fenton Pyrtle. Bridesmaids were Brittney Elizabeth Forrister, Stephanie Gross Hite, Meredith Ashton Longest, Kelley Marie Martin, Megan Stacey Orrell, Andrea Nicole Reeves, and Stephanie Ross Williams. Madeleine Veigh Harrison and Chandler Cannady Wadford were flower girls. The groom chose his father, James Appleby, to serve as best man. Groomsmen were brother of the bride, Jay Malone Pyrtle, Derek James Foy, Preston Neal Mahan, Joel Parrish McIntyre, Michael Thomas Newton, Austin Douglas Rorie, and Robert Kenneth Warfield. Ushers were Warren Christian Zweigart and William Frederick Zweigart. Program attendants and greeters were Laura Anne Kornegay, Mary Peyton Robbins Penick, and Rebekah Talbott Sergent. On Friday evening, the groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at Alamance Country Club which was followed by a dance given by friends and family of the groom. The couple honeymooned in Petit St. Vincent, and now reside in Raleigh.
